World’s Best Butter Cookies





Ingredients:

  • 8 oz (227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

2. Cream the butter and sugar:

  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer or hand whisk.
  • Beat until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.

3. Add the egg yolk and vanilla:

  • Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until fully incorporated.

4. Add the flour and salt:

  • Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt to the mixture.
  • Mix on low speed or by hand until just combined, forming a soft dough.

5. Shape the cookies:

  • Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls.
  • Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • For a slightly flattened appearance, you can gently press the tops of the dough balls with the back of a fork or your fingers.

6. Bake:

  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft.
  • Keep an eye on them, as baking times may vary depending on your oven.

7. Cool and enjoy:

  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • These cookies are best enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee!

Tips for Perfect Butter Cookies:

  • For extra flavor, you can add a few tablespoons of finely chopped nuts (like almonds or hazelnuts) to the dough.
  • If you want to decorate the cookies, try dipping the edges in melted chocolate or sprinkling sugar on top before baking.
