In a small bowl, combine the water and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes bubbly and frothy. This shows that the yeast is active.
2. Mix the dough:
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
Pour the activated yeast mixture into the flour and stir with a spoon or your hands until the dough starts to form. It will be slightly sticky, but that’s okay — you don’t need to knead it.
3. Let the dough rise:
Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
4. Shape and bake:
After the dough has risen, gently turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a loaf.
Place the dough in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet if you prefer a round loaf.
Let it rise again for 30–40 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Once the dough has risen again, bake it in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
